# Proposals

> Control sequences that have been proposed but are not yet in any standard, summarized as their authors wrote them.

Terminals keep acquiring sequences, and new ones start life as a proposal:
a specification written by one terminal's authors, or by someone who wants
terminals to agree on something, and put forward for others to implement.
The pages here summarize such proposals as they are written. Few terminals,
if any, implement them yet, so these pages have no support table and no
validation cases: they say what the proposal asks for, link to the version
of it that was read, and note where it is still open.

- [OSC 7501: Program Status Protocol](https://control-codes.page/proposals/osc-7501/index.html.md): A proposal for a program to tell its terminal what it is doing: idle, working, waiting on the user, finished, or failed, and why.
- [OSC 88: Terminal Resume Protocol](https://control-codes.page/proposals/osc-88/index.html.md): A proposal for a program to tell its terminal how to relaunch it when the terminal itself is restarted.

This is the Markdown version of <https://control-codes.page/proposals/>. On that page every validation case runs live in libghostty-vt, the terminal emulation core of Ghostty, compiled to WebAssembly.
